Day 1
[Thu.] Board your transpacific flight.

Days 2 & 3 Arrival In Melbourne, Australia. [Fri. & Sat.] Cross the International Date Line and arrive in Melbourne on Saturday morning. G'day and welcome to the Land Down Under! Rooms are ready for immediate check-in. Meet your tour director and traveling companions at noon for a brief orientation. This afternoon's city tour of Victoria's capital focuses on the city's landmarks such as Parliament House and the Shrine of Remembrance. Visit COOK'S HISTORIC COTTAGE in the FITZROY GARDENS, and then drive past the lush Royal Botanical Gardens. Other sights include the Victorian Arts Center. Tonight your tour director hosts a welcome dinner. [D]
 
  Day 4 Melbourne.[Sun.] Today is free to survey Australia's second-largest city on your own. Perhaps enjoy the museums or gardens that are abundant here. Later this afternoon, you could take the optional excursion to see the penguin parade or relish a unique dining experience on the Vintage Colonial Tramcar. [B]

Day 5 Melbourne. Great Ocean Road Excursion. [Mon.] Today's excursion passes Australia's farmland as it travels the Great Ocean Road, a spectacular highway following the coastline with vistas of surf beaches and sheer cliff faces. Most impressive are the amazing rock formations such as the Twelve Apostles, a now of huge stone pillars. If you prefer, you might choose to relax at your hotel. [B]
   
    Day 6 Melbourne-Cairns-Port Douglas. [Tue.] An early afternoon flight to Cairns, gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. After a scenic drive north along the tropical coastline, you reach Port Douglas on the edge of the Daintree Rainforest. Balance of the day is free for you to enjoy the facilities at your resort-close to a beautiful beach, nestled in a lush forest setting with flowing creeks and a large lagoon pool. [B]

Day 7 Port Douglas. Great Barrier Reef Excursion. [Wed.] Today's activities focus on natural wonders; set out for the RAIN FOREST HABITAT this morning for "Breakfast with the Birds" In the aviary, walk along the elevated boardwalks for close ups of colorful parrots, the rare riflebird, and the endangered cassowary In the Wallaby and Wetlands Walk, you'll come across koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, and crocodiles. Transfer to the dock to board a fast catamaran and head out to the outer edge of Australia's famous Great Barrier Reef. Enjoy coral viewing from the UNDERWATER OBSERVATORY or cruise among the coral gardens in a modern SUB-SEA VIEWER. Snorkeling gear is available for the more adventurous, and an informative talk by a marine biologist enhances your reef experience. A smorgasbord lunch is included. [B,L]

Day 12 Sydney-Ayers Rock. [Mon.] Some free time before a late morning flight to "The Center" and Yulara [Ayers Rock region]. In the afternoon, travel out past Uluru [Ayers Rock] to the magnificent Kata Tjuta [the Olgas], a geological splendor of some 30 brilliant monoliths. There is time for a walk to the Olga Gorge before returning to the "Sunset Strip" to enjoy a drink while watching the changing colors of the Rock at dusk. [B]
 
  Day 13 Ayers Rock-Alice Springs. [Tue.] An opportunity this morning for an optional light-aircraft flight over the Rock. Later a brief tour around its base. This afternoon fly to the heart of the Outback to the city of Alice Springs. The balance of the afternoon is free for independent sightseeing. This evening, why not try the optional Outback bush dinner? [B]

Day 14 Alice Springs. [Wed.] Early risers may want to start the day with an optional hot-air-balloon ride over the plains at sunrise. Otherwise a free morning to relax by the pool or shop for Aboriginal artifacts and Outback souvenirs in town. An afternoon city tour takes you to the historic OLD TELEGRAPH STATION, then onto Anzac Hill, the ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE, SCHOOL OF THE AIR, and a CAMEL FARM for an included ride-a perfect photo opportunity!
